Independent-living residents can either rent or own, choosing to purchase one of the newly built cottages or lease an apartment. All the cottages have spectacular views of the bay. The apartments are spacious, and rent includes an evening six-course dinner in the main panoramic dining room.
Assisted-living residents are cared for by a dedicated staff, all of whom are trained in the Best Friends model of care, an approach that emphasizes personal connection, individual attention, and respect. For residents with Alzheimer’s, a secure unit is provided that specializes in caring for patients with memory loss, also using the Best Friends approach.
The social and activity calendar at Birch Bay is always brimming with programs and events, including day trips around Mt. Desert Island, lectures by College of the Atlantic and Acadia Senior College faculty, movie screenings, Friday-night wine and cheese parties, barbecues, and plenty of entertainment.
